Dear Shulyak Alexandr,
Welcome to this edition of EMJ Hematology, which brings you unrelenting coverage of this year’s premiere European haematological event: the 20th European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress, which took place in Vienna, Austria on 11th-14th June. Following a thrilling and momentous four days, our team returned home in great spirits, having witnessed an abundance of new findings, discussions, and debates that covered a mass of haematological subjects during the anniversary congress. Inside we have compiled a series of abstract reviews, highlights of presentations, interviews with key members of the haematological community, and in-depth symposium reviews straight from the congress floor, which will enable our readers to discover many of the vital recent developments from this field of medicine.

New treatment options were a key theme of EHA 2015 and great strides have taken place, demonstrated in a series of presentations for conditions such as acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, myelofibrosis, chronic myeloid leukaemia, and multiple myeloma. Inside we have included a series of intriguing articles, discussing areas such as relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma, thrombosis in haematological disorders, mantle cell lymphoma, and the potential of biosimilars to improve patient access in haematology. Our congress review features details of the event’s most exciting presentations. These include an Australian study which provides evidence that a combination of two targeted therapies, venetoclax and rituximab, is a safe and effective therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, as well as research suggesting that pacritinib, an oral next-generation multikinase inhibitor, significantly improves the disease symptoms and quality of life of myelofibrosis patients.
