Flexible Ureteroscopy and its Role in Stone Management
By: Dr. Palle Osther (Denmark) and Dr. Adrian Joyce (United Kingdom)

Flexible ureterorenoscopy offers a perfect access to the entire upper urinary tract.

In this video, Drs. Palle Osther and Adrian Joyce—two experts in the field of endourology—discuss the expanding role of flexible ureterorenoscopy, mainly focusing on stone management, but also emphasizing its importance for upper tract urothelial carcinoma diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Osther highlights significant technological improvements over the past decades including thinner and more flexible devices, digital video imaging, or changes in laser treatment.
Dr. Osther and Dr. Joyce critically discuss the role of adjuncts such as access sheets and the role of stenting, and present several attempts for optimizing treatment success. They also offer several tips and tricks to avoid common pitfalls that may be faced, especially by younger, less experienced endourological surgeons.
